Position Overview:

The Community Outreach and Sustainability Specialist position holds responsibilities in Corporate Social Responsibility. The position is responsible for ensuring that American Licorice Company is living up to its ideals of investing in the happiness of our consumers, associates, communities, and environment. The position coordinates overall environmental efforts; acts as a lead on American Licorice Company Social Responsibility initiatives; leads companywide engagement efforts; represents American Licorice Company externally; and manages relationships with external parties and consultants.

The position reports to the VP of Community & Administration and requires an individual who can operate cross-functionally by interacting with different departments within the company.

 Responsibilities:

  • Sustain and continue to develop strategic implementation plans around the “Investing in Happiness” purpose, which focuses on Consumers, Associates, Community, and Environment, and be accountable for results.
  • Communicate and engage with all associates in La Porte and Union City on all three shifts in an inspiring way to build commitment and buy-in to ALC’s Purpose
  • Manage CSR budget around “Investing in Happiness” strategy that reaches 10% Net Income.
  • Manage social responsibility reporting process, working with business units and public relations communications.
  • Act as liaison with outside community groups to ensure that ALC is investing in areas that will help support our surrounding communities.
  • Manage the “Sweet Goods Community Garden.”
  • Sustain and continue to develop a comprehensive sustainability plan in concert with representatives of related functional areas and business units covering: energy use; waste reduction; carbon footprint; employee involvement and communications; external leadership.
  • Conduct carbon footprint/greenhouse gas emissions analysis, analyze areas of impact and craft footprint reduction strategy in concert with relevant internal stakeholders, work with outside groups to offset carbon footprint.
  • Work with business units to pursue appropriate public relations, marketing initiatives and recognition & awards to validate American Licorice Company’s efforts.
  • Other tasks as appointed by the VP of Community & Administration.
  • Responsible for Food Safety as related to position.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 1-2 years of related experience.
  • Effective team management experience.

Qualifications:

  • Self-starting, self-directed, team oriented professional, with ability to independently determine the direction of work required and priority projects.
  • Must be creative and detail-oriented.
  • Advanced analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to present ideas effectively and in a variety of presentation situations and ability to successfully interact with engineers, shift coaches, line leaders and their staffs.
  • Should exhibit a high level of energy and motivation.
