Position Overview:

The Packaging Engineer must be committed to ALC’s core values and strategy of investing in happiness, where they will have a large impact on how ALC’s packages impact the environment. The Packaging Engineer is responsible for the designing of product packaging to ensure product integrity, appeal under varying shipping and display conditions, avoidance of non-essential slack fill, while doing their best to limit the environmental impact of that packaging. She/He will test, analyze, and select materials for packaging based upon durability, cost effectiveness, and environmental impact.  The Packaging Engineer will oversee all aspects of projects associated with packaging design including setting of deadlines, monitoring and summarizing progress, and preparing reports regarding status. Also, the Packaging Engineer will be responsible for compliance with GS1 standards and other applicable laws and standards. The Packaging Engineer will travel on a regular basis between ALC locations.  Travel includes but not limited to internal and external training and/or meetings and press runs.

  • Design packaging to ensure product integrity, appeal under varying shipping and display conditions, avoidance of non-essential slack fill, while doing their best to limit the environmental impact of that packaging.
  • Design displays and case packages, including DRCs/PDQs.
  • Input on ideation of packaging items based upon vendor resources, costs, and environmental impact and operation capabilities.
  • Researches new vendors for packaging not supported by current vendor list.
  • Works with Operations and Quality on packaging improvements, quality control, and efficiency improvements.
  • Responsible for managing production tests, ship tests, and final specification of packaging items.
  • Creates spec sheets, samples, and mock ups for new items.
  • Manage GS1 data requirements
  • Controls audit and update of spec sheets of all Packaging Materials by certifying data and specification detail for all departments.
  • Attends Press Runs and audits quality and integrity of all packaging items.
  • Act as a liaison between Marketing, Sales, and Procurement on new packaging ideas and concepts.
  • Attends Sales meetings with customers to support ideation of new packaging items.
  • Oversees all aspects of projects associated with new designs including setting of deadlines, monitoring and summarizing progress, and preparing reports regarding status.
  • Attends packaging shows, seminars, and trainings to keep up to date with trends in the industry.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in area of specialty.
  • 4 - 5 years experience in Consumer Packaged Goods or in the Food or Confectionary Industry is preferred.
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedure of the packaging industry.
  • Creative thinker with ability to perform a variety of tasks.
  • Digitally savvy.
  • The ability to adapt and a passion for learning.
  • Travel required, approximately 30% of time

Position Overview:

 

The production associate will be expected to contribute to the general manufacturing, production and packaging of candy in accordance with the standards of the Company.  This associate will perform all tasks in a safe manner with consideration to product quality and volume to meet the production schedule and needs of our consumers. This associate will be expected to participate in problem solving to further develop lean manufacturing principles and world class manufacturing practices. This associate is expected to maintain open communications with Team Leaders and the Production Shift Coach.

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Perform each assigned task using the standard operating procedures with consideration of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.     
  • Train new associates on the specific tasks required for each production position.
  • Report any possible safety risk to the Team Leader, the Shift Coach or another member of management.
  • Review the staffing board prior to the shift startup meeting to obtain your daily assignment.
  • Learn and rotate through each position in the production line.
  • Remain observant in each location to ensure that proper food safety standards and quality standards are met within the production process.
  • Complete the proper quality paperwork in the positions that require you to do so.
  • Constantly engage in problem solving.
  • Check the daily attendance board.
  • Update the skills matrix board as needed.
  • Responsible for Food Safety, as related to the position
  • Regular, predictable attendance on-site at the facility

 Environmental exposure would primarily be in the plant manufacturing area.  Potential contact to a variety of materials and ingredients used in the manufacture of product that may require proper use of PPE.

 Potentially all the equipment used in all of the processes used in the manufacture of product in the plant including the running of machinery for cutting, wrapping, bagging, and packing the product for the end customer. Some processes involve the use of heavy equipment including Mustangs, Packers, circle wrappers, theiles, bliss machines, Rovema, Viking, Hayssen, and matrix baggers. In addition, the use of a motorized pallet jack, forklift, and film loader.

At American Licorice, we focus on Investing in Happiness through our brands and products.  The Consumer Researcher is a member of the Marketing Department, helping the organization create growth opportunities and prepare for the future. This individual enquires into consumers, shoppers, retailers, markets and competitors; educates American Licorice associates about findings and insights; and recommends business strategies and tactics to support quality decision making.  The Consumer Researcher collaborates with other members of the team to support the needs of internal clients at American Licorice. This role is expected to be a curious, engaged and active participant on the business, consistently contributing fact-based creative ideas and insights that will benefit the business.  By learning more about our business and its opportunities, the Consumer Researcher identifies problems, the root causes of those problems and solutions to those problems.  Fundamentally, the associate in this role is a learner who helps American Licorice learn more about consumers as well.  This Consumer Researcher role primarily uses primary and custom research, including quantitative and qualitative research, to achieve objectives.

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

·      Scopes, leads, executes, and analyzes consumer research studies including but not limited to online surveys, attitude and usage studies, consumer segmentation, shopper segmentation, focus groups, new product research, and in-home usage tests

·      Gather and synthesize market trends and consumer insights from primary and syndicated research studies

·      Integrates primary research findings and insights with syndicated data to provide a holistic perspective on issues

·      Proficient at translating findings from detailed analysis into clear, concise stories

·      Continuously investigate new consumer research tools and techniques, recommending their use as appropriate to achieve research and business objectives

Position Overview:

 

The Product Innovation Manager is a hands-on technical and creative leader in the laboratory and manufacturing facility. In addition, the Product Innovation Manager ensures that there is a safe working environment in the laboratory for associates and visitors.

 

The essential problem the Product Innovation Manager solves is what new experiences and products will satisfy market desires and how can those products be manufactured.  The Manager solves this by leading rapid cycles of learning, using intuition, hypothesis generation, product prototyping, market research and experimentation to answer questions.  The process of learning and discovery creates technical and market knowledge.  This knowledge is collected, made usable and retrievable, to solve future business problems.

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Leads product development initiatives into new product areas both within and beyond the confectionery category, expanding the company’s market opportunities; also lead product improvement initiatives for the current catalog of offerings
  • Ensures that product development initiatives provide high quality and happy consumer experiences, for instance on the dimensions of taste, odor, texture, color, appearance, while achieving key milestone and ship dates
  • Identifies, develops, and creates more cost effective product formulas, standardized production, and achieve good profit margins
  • Establishes and maintain productive relationships with key personnel and contacts in the major food ingredient industries and with outside co-packers as appropriate
  • Manages and direct all preliminary floor-planning of new Product Innovation pilot equipment and new manufacturing equipment
  • Assists and support plant manufacturing during start up of the unit processing and unit operations, involving commissioning of new equipment and transitioning new item products
  • Works with Vice President to understand consumer research/ insights/desires and business plans for product innovations and improvements
  • Verifies that product development initiatives meet governmental/regulatory standards
  • Supports processes and behaviors that create a safe work environment for all associates
  • Establishes New Product Quality Attributes and manufacturing specifications
  • Responsible for Food Safety as related to position.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least 10 years of experience in the field
  • M.S. in Chemistry or Food related discipline strongly preferred

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience in a broad area of confectionery machinery and equipment selection and application
  • Demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected
